Shakey’s Pizza Menu Explained

The 1950s was a golden era in the US that saw massive economic growth and great cultural shifts. The Allies were victorious in World War II and the troops were coming back home. It was time for reconstruction and expansion. Among the soldiers who came back was Sherwood Johnson. He was nicknamed “Shakey” because of a nerve damage he sustained during the war. He would eventually settle down in Sacramento and build a restaurant named after him. At first, the place was known more for the music than the pizza. The food eventually came into the forefront as more locations popped up all over the country and overseas.

The Essentials

Shakey’s is mostly known for three things: pizza, chicken and mojos. They also offer salads, sides, beverages, and desserts but those 3 are top of mind whenever people think of the brand. Guests can get these items individually or pick a combo for their meals.  Some locations will let people build their own combination for a perfect fit. For instance, you can get a slice of pizza, two pieces of fried chicken, and some mojos on the side. You can specify the flavors that you want, including the dips. They also have party packages for those who are looking for a caterer for their next event.

The Pizza

There are six classic flavors to choose from in the Shakey’s pizza menu. These include the Rustic Garlic Chicken, the Ultimate Meat, the Texas BBQ Chicken, the Firehouse Pizza, the Garden Veggie, and the Shakey’s Special. Other locations may have different flavors on offer in addition to these house favorites. The restaurant also creates new ones from time to time with availability being limited to a certain period. Every creation is unique such that patrons can try a different one in every visit and get a distinct dining experience.

For example, the Rustic Garlic Chicken uses an Alfredo sauce instead of the usual tomato sauce. This gives it a unique taste compared to all the others. The toppings include mushrooms, cilantro, and sliced chicken breast. The Firehouse pizza, as the name suggests, is filled with spicy toppings including hot sausages for those who like their meals with a fiery kick.  There is Ultimate Meat for avowed carnivores. This has ground beef, pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, ham and salami. On the opposite end is the Garden Veggie which has no meat at all. The toppings include mushrooms, onions, black olives, green peppers, and diced tomatoes.

Build Your Own Pizza

Guests have the ultimate power over their food. If you have something special in mind, then go ahead and create it using whatever ingredient you want. There are four sizes of crust for your base including 7 inches, 9 inches, 12 inches, and 15 inches. Among the meat toppings you can use are ham, pepperoni, ground beef, salami, Italian sausage, hot sliced sausage, chorizo, anchovy, bacon, and sliced chicken breast. As for the vegetables, you can get jalapenos, cilantro, green pepper, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, basil, pineapple, and black olives. You can also add premium toppings like feta cheese, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, and pesto sauce.
